This domaine is located in the municipality of Margaux in the Médoc (Bordeaux) appellation of the same name. Its origins date back to 1765, the year of its acquisition by the merchant Ferrière Gabriel (1721-1792). The property remained in the family until 1917, to then be sold to Armand Feuillerat. His heirs gave it as farm rent to Alexis Lichine, who produced wine at his Château Lascombesdomaine. In 1988, Jacques Merlaut (deceased in 2008) bought it through his Taillan companies and had his daughter Bernadette manageit. After the tragic death of the latter and her husband in 1992 while hiking in the Pyrenees, his daughter Claire Villars-Lurton (Gonzague Lurton's wife) took over the management that year. In the 1855 classification of Bordeaux wines, it ranked Third Cru Classé. The vineyard covers an area of eight hectares planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Merlot (15%) and Petit Verdot (5%). This grand ageing wine matures for 16 to 18 months in oak barrels of which 60% are renewed every year. The second wine is called "Les Remparts de Ferriere.
