Barossa Valley, Australia
Peter Lehmann Wines
Goes well with
Wild boar, grilled food and semi-soft cheese, or drunk on its own
Very dark ruby colour, an intense bouquet that marries distinctive aromas of very ripe black berries and eucalyptus, which evolve into delicate woody and dark chocolate nuances supported by slightly smoky notes, good concentration on the attack, a dry palate, robust, with good structure, exudes flavours of ripe berries evoking raisins.
James Halliday - 95
The people in his area call him the "Baron of Barossa-Valley."" The wine magazine ""Decanter"", has called him nothing less than the ""living legend of Australian wine"". He is Peter Lehmann, son of a Lutheran pastor. Turning 75 this year. His family settled inAustralia five generations ago. But he was the first to enter the wine trade, and at the age of 17. He worked at Yalumba for 13 years, then became Chief Oenologist and Director of Saltram Wines. Under his leadership, the quantity of grapes produced by Saltram went from 400 to over 6000 tonnes per year. Lehmann convinced independant winemakers and won their trust. Which he did not want to destroy when, 27 years before, the owners of the company had told him to purchase fewer grapes due to economic problems.
