Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
Goes well with
Roasts, grilled food, wild game, hard salty cheese
Deep, dark purple colour, almost black, at first a somewhat closed bouquet but once decanted, reveals strong notes of toasted wood, dark berries (blackberries, cassis) and a touch of raisin and leather, compact on the palate, a dense wine, complex and full bodied, with generous fullness, strong aromatic expression, a perfect structure with excellent tannins accompanying the finish. A great, somewhat youthful wine which will flourish with age.
Tenuta Poggio Verrano was founded in 2000 by Francesco Bolla. Carlo Ferrini the domain's agronomist and oenologist, was awarded the title of """Winemaker of the Year"""" by the American magazine """"Wine Enthusiast"""". The vines are planted at between 170 and 300 meters in altitude in Maremma, Toscana, in the production region of Morellino di Scansano, 15 km from Mare dell'Argentario. The vineyard area extends over 27 hectares and consists of Alicante, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sangiovese grapes (6700 plants/hectare). The gravelly soil is composed of limestone and clay. The grapes are hand picked and fermented at a controlledtemperature. A slow maceration in iron tubs follows and ageing of 18 months in barrels where the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation.
