Deep purple colour, a pleasant nose of red berries with hints of cassis, cherries and a hint of plum, slightly spicy with nuances of bread crust and earth, very concentrated on the palate, lots of substance, an almost Burgundian elegance with a balanced body and delicate structure, ending on a long aromatic note.
The Douro wine region does not include the entire river valley, only the Alto Douro in Portuguese territory and its adjacent valleys are entitled to use the Douru DOC. Portugal has a large number of indigenous grape varieties, of which one hundred are traditionally cultivated in the Douro but only a few of these are among the recommended varieties, which must represent at least 60% of blendedwines. The red grape varieties that are recommended are the Tinta Roriz (called Aragonez in Alentejo and Tempranillo in Spain), Bastardo, Marufo, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Francisca, Tinto Cão, Touriga Francesca, Touriga Nacional and Trincadeira Preta.
