Thin-Sliced Beef Steaks with Papaya Salsa

  • 1 tsp. ground cardamom
  • 1 red chilli pepper, cut into rings, insides removed
  • 1.5 dl orange juice
  • 0.5 tsp. salt
  • 4 beef frying steaks (minute steaks) (approx. 80 g each)
  • 1.5 tbsp. peanut oil
  • 3 spring onions, incl. green parts, onions cut into rings, greens set aside
  • 0.5 tsp. ground coriander
  • 1 papaya, insides removed, cut into small cubes
  • 0.5 lime, use only the juice
  • a little pepper


  • Heat the oil. Sauté the onions and briefly add the coriander and cardamom. Add the chilli, pour in the orange juice, bring to the boil. Reduce the heat, simmer the sauce for approx. 2 mins. over a very low heat. Finely chop the reserved green part of the spring onions, add together with the diced papaya and lime juice, carefully stir in, add salt to taste.
  • Brush the steaks with oil. Heat the griddle. Grill the meat in batches over a high heat for approx. 1 mins. each side, season.
