Degustation notes

Garnet colour, with deep, dense purple tints. A peppery bouquet, with a fine touch of cedar, black berries, blond tobacco, while evoking a certain affinity with St-Julien. An elegant and long finish. Finely woven, delicate, gently radiant tannins, that only solicit the palate at the very end. A classic style with a guarantee of ageing potential.

Special notes

In the early eighteenth century, Jean-François de Pontet, the King's equerry became governor of Médoc, bringing together several parcels of land located in Pauillac. A few years later, his descendants added neighbouring vineyards in Canet. And thus one of the largest Médoc estates was born, which appends naturally, according to the custom of the time, the name of its founder. One hundred years later, the famous 1855 classification has not forgotten Pontet-Canet, that has integrated the Médoc elite vineyards. This ascension did not go unnoticed by one of the first Bordeaux merchants of the time, Herman Cruse, who bought the property in 1865, built new cellars, modernized the facilities, and introduced his wine to the world. The Cruse family owned Pontet-Canet for 110 years, until another merchant, this one from Cognac, Guy Tesseron, acquired it in 1975. Consequently, in more than two hundred years, Pontet-Canethas had only three different owners, and still remaines a family business. Today, the descendants of Guy Tesseron, his son Alfred and his nieces Melanie and Philippine, Gérard Tesseron's daughters, own the domain. Thirty years after their arrival in Pauillac, theTesserons have the satisfaction of having progressively and completely restructured the vineyard, replaced the machinery and renovated the production buildings. Area: 120 hectares including 81 planted with vineyards. Soil: gravely. Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon 62%,Merlot 32%, Cabernet Franc 4% and Petit Verdot 2%. Average age of the vines: 45 years. Harvest: Manual, in crates.
